Citrix Secure Private Access – Secure Access on steroids?
Introduction
Earlier this year, Citrix released a new product, Secure Private Access (SPA for short). The question that keeps coming up from customers and partners is:
What is it and why should I take a look?
I wanted to provide a white board run through, to explain where it sits and what it offers for a secure remote access scenario.
What is the history?
Citrix has been in the Secure Access business for a long time, possibly as long as it has been in business. We typically used a virtualization option to solve for a secure access use case. It is a great solution; nothing leaves the DC and it worked really well over some truly flaky connections. Financial customers love it, as they get a level of control of their users irrespective where they are or the device they have. Now, I am not saying that is not the case anymore, but there were always some use cases that didn’t work so well within that solution. Typically, the customer found alternative ways to get people in and these were used in addition to VDI/DaaS offering as it is now.
The problem with this, is that it means that you have different solutions for different things, how can you define a consistent security policy across environments? Also, would it not be cool to have some of the ZTNA options to just provide access to what the user needs. As zero trust is the new thing that everyone is looking to use.
Drum roll….
Enter SPA.
Secure Private Access gives an access solution that is available as a cloud service, it works with web and non-web based protocols. So what is good about it? It is simple and quick to setup and being a cloud service it will evolve without you needing to update an appliance.
Here is a handy graphic.
So what does it offer a user?
Take a look at this walk though. Its 12minutes, come on its Friday, everyone has 12minutes spare. 😊 - This is my first attempt at sharing a video, so fingers crossed.
Summary
Hopefully, that explained what it is. What is the call to action? Let me know in the comments or message me directly and I would be happy to have a deeper dive into SPA.
Stay safe!
