Hello!
The NetScaler appliance has always had a number of different feature bundles, these provided customers with the option to choose something that covered the basics or spend more $$ to get other capabilities. For example, the ‘Standard’ edition provided load balancing and Content Switching, ‘Advanced’ added Global Server Load Balancing(GSLB). ‘Premium’ offered all the ‘Advanced’ features and added the option to use some of the more security focused features.
This document will provide an overview of the different editions and their features, in both high level view and a more detailed list.
Why do this?
In the past there was a self contained data sheet with features and appliances all in one place. The more recent version, dropped this feature table. I have re-created it and updated it, as I have been asked for this a number of times.
I thought that just googling an old version was ‘fine’, but I noticed that there were some older references to things that are not used anymore.
NetScaler License editions
In broad terms, there are only two editions sold now, Advanced and Premium. Standard is End of Sale now, but can be renewed. There also used to be a ‘Gateway Only’ virtual appliance, that was very inexpensive and just designed to give a HDX Proxy access with a few integration options. This gateway only appliance is also End of Sale/End of renewal.
The high level view.
A ‘Gateway Universal’ license add on
This was a ‘extra’ license that gave five extra features, SSL VPN, Client-less Access, End point, Mobile device access and Smart Access scanning. You needed x of these to give x users these features. The Gateway Virtual server needed to have this check box 'ICA Only’ cleared as shown here:
This was a bit complicated, as such, it was rolled into the edition licenses and dropped. These were the number for each edition
Premium edition gave 'a platform limit’
Advanced edition gave 1000 users
Standard edition gave 500 users
However, customer still have and use them, they will be phased out.
The more detailed feature tables
The following tables list the features that are included with each edition.
Moving from ‘Advanced’ to ‘Premium’
The other point, if you have an appliance with the Advanced bundle, swapping over the license and rebooting will enable all the features from Premium. No new deployment is needed.
Summary
Hopefully, this is clear. Let me know if there are points that need further clarification.
