Hello!
I have had a few customer(s) say that their existing vCPU version of Pooled capacity is going to be replaced with Universal Hybrid Multi-cloud (UHMC from now on) at some point soon. As they will be getting a large amount of NetScaler capacity within that entitlement, they will be switching from the old to the new capacity.
How do I migrate from vCPU to UHMC licenses? What do I need to consider in the migration?
Assumptions
You have both types of licenses available, some overlap of time lines really helps. Review the NetScaler Times article above to get UHMC added to NetScaler Console.
You have some access to the NetScaler Console and NetScaler itself, you have super user admin rights. You know the kind of thing, no limits.
You have a change window booked, this will need a reboot both nodes, the impact of this can be minimised with HA of course.
In these notes, it will talk about NetScaler Console, this process works for Console Service or on-premise NetScaler Console.
The Lab for this test
There are two nodes in HA, with two cores each from a vCPU pool hosted on NetScaler Console, a small setup.
The primary is on 192.168.1.152 and the secondary is on 192.168.1.150.
The high level process is:
Remove the old license settings currently in place.
Add some new ones, usually on the same NetScaler Console system.
Reboot the appliance(s).
Verify and monitor the performance and adjust as necessary.
The detailed steps
Get the new Flexed licenses installed on Console, its not too tricky, that said there is quite a few options in the UHMC package. Ensure that you have the correct licenses for your environment.
Go to the secondary node of your HA pair, in my case 192.168.1.150, and check the licensing. Mine has this:
Go to >System>Licenses>ADC License>Manage licenses. Choose ‘manage licenses’, it will open this window:
Choose the ‘X’ option. This removes the current assignment.
The system will pop up this warning, click yes.
Go to ‘Manage licenses’ again.
Add a new license
Choose the remote option, only this time change the ‘CPU licensing’ option to ‘Pooled’.
Enter the address of the NetScaler Console or its local Agent for Service deployments, this should not have changed, but it will need it. There is also a check box for having this Console Manage the instance.
Allocate some throughput….
Once this is complete, reboot the appliance.
Repeat the process on the other node from step 2.
Summary
Hopefully, this was helpful!
