I am back, it is day 12!
CADS Self managed? Has he lost the plot? What is this CADS thing?
Also, why a lawn mower?
Well, the grass-cutting thing is more in reference to this self-managed part. CADS is a new way to license NetScaler, a SaaS offering. No more messing about with license files, it is all right there in the ADM console.
You have been selected for a training course in Citrix ADM, the goal is to provide you with enough information to be actually dangerous when talking to a customer or client. 30 days is a bit of an arbitrary number, but I am prepared to give you 2 minutes of material, can I get 2 minutes of your time? I have talked about Fleet management, general analytics, security analytics, AI / ML, Stylebooks, Pooled Capacity, instance advisory upgrade, security advisory, autoscaling, onboarding and RESTful API
Today is all about CADS Self-managed.
Honestly, what are you talking about?
Citrix ADM is a management platform for NetScaler, one of ADM’s many skills, is the ability to dish out licenses to NetScaler. The NetScaler appliances can be just about anywhere, Public Cloud or private DC. The connectivity is all sorted with an ADM Agent. Citrix has recently started integrating the licenses for NetScaler in the cloud service console itself.
So what? What problem does it solve?
Assignment of licenses is taken care of all in one place.
Who would be interested in this?
Almost any customer that uses Pooled Capacity for NetScaler and is looking at a renewal. Switching to CADS Self-managed has some benefits…
Like what?
The first is that the licensing is hosted in ADM Service and not anywhere else, so it won’t be possible to drop into an On-premise ADM instance. Then again on-premise ADM does lose out in a few areas versus the service, which I will drill into later in this series. To be clear, the license delivery itself is automatic, Citrix puts it straight into ADM service.
One area of cost for ADM, in general, is an entitlement to gather analytics on Virtual Server IP addresses, more usually called VIP’s. CADS Self-managed bundles VIPS for free. Each GB/vCPU gets a VIP for advanced analytics included.
What does ADM licensing solution look like?
Looking in the infrastructure drop down we have a new menu that has popped up called Self-managed.
This will be the place to go so see your licenses. There are actually quite for options in there already, but who is counting?
Ok, what else does CADS self-managed give you?
Wouldn’t It be cool to try out the Citrix-managed version of CADS?
You can!
Self-managed comes with an entitlement for a free one-year trial of the “Citrix Managed” offering with intent-based and self-healing capabilities. This will allow you to trial the migration of ADC functionality from their own ADC platforms to a Citrix Managed ADC platform at no cost.
The trial comes with 100TB of data processing and 8M DNS queries, which is typically sufficient for most production needs
Summary.
Licensing can be fun! We have tools to save you time and help you get back to the high-value tasks.
Ultimately, it is another killer feature that is enabled with ADM service.
